My Experience at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2022 (Virtual Attendee)
Hello there!
In this blog, I am going to share my experience at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2022 as a virtual attendee.
Let's first learn about what is KubeCon?
KubeCon stands for Kubernetes conference. Kubernetes is a tool developed by google under its internal project named Borg. In the year 2014, google open-sourced this revolutionary tool by donating it to CNCF(Cloud Native Computing Foundation). The first conference happened in 2015, and since then it happens every year. This year over 11,000 people took part in KubeCon(in-person + virtual) which is approximately twice the number last year and 290+ sponsors were there I was feeling very excited because I was one of them. The number of community members attending this event is increasing tremendously. The cost to attend this conference varies from $0 to $100(virtual attendee) and around $150 to $2000 if you want to attend it in person. Attending KubeCon+CloudNativeCon will allow you to learn more about cloud-native technologies and become part of our community!
Is there a way to attend KubeCon for FREE?
Yes, there is a way to attend this conference for free. CNCF provides Dan Kohn Student Scholarship in order to attend KubeCon without any cost for both virtual and in-person presence. You just have to apply for it and if you got a chance you can attend it. Fortunately, I was able to attend this event because of this scholarship.
KubeCon Portal
After I got the credentials I logged in to the portal and guess what, I got excited and confused at the same time because there was so much on it and I was attending it for the first time.
I hover the pointer over Co-located Events + Sessions and click on it. As soon as the portal loads there was a complete day-wise list of events happening both virtual and in-person.
I selected a few in My Agenda to watch them at midnight(Yeah! the time difference sucks but my excitement was way up) I learnt about chaos engineering from Litmus Chaos. Using chaos injections we make the K8s cluster more secure and less vulnerable to failure, K3s(lightweight Kubernetes) for smart metering solutions, Kube scheduler, enterprise cloud-native artifact register, etc. There were lots of sessions showing beginner to advanced use cases of cloud-native technology.
ARE THEIR GIVEAWAYS AND SWAGS DISTRIBUTION?
Of course, there are lots of giveaways at this event. The giveaways generally include swags, various learning course giveaways, cash coupons, gift cards, items, certification vouchers etc There is a separate section of special offers where you can participate in surveys, product testing, etc to get rewards including the above things.
I took part in two giveaways and guess what I won both of them. But the knowledge I get by using those wonderful techs, tools and the sessions from renowned technocrats has far more worth than the material things of course I won't deny I like getting them :).
I really enjoyed and learnt a lot about the number of cloud-native technologies developed because of this event and I highly recommend you, people, to attend these types of events. These events help us to know the technology a lot better and show us the way to learn those and get more than a job. There and more on the way.
Now you might be thinking "HOW SHOULD I KNOW WHEN AND WHERE THESE TYPE OF EVENTS TOOK PLACE ?"
The simple answer to this question is to GOOGLE it, follow them on Linkedin, and register yourself on the websites so that you can get the newsletters, join their slack or discord channel, etc
